I have a JLH Frogwood that sounds really good on dark slate but no so much on my red slate? Does anyone know if that's pretty normal?

Frogwood might work for some, but when it comes to slate calls, hard to beat hickory and persimmon strikers.

JLH Frogwood, I think I have 4 or 5 of them, plays well for me on most any surface.
