The 3 miles of fields and drainages north of me are a no go for getting on the land. No one is allowed to hunt it. Plus being hours from home.

That could be the case as it was the 3rd week before I tried hunting there.
I spent the second week near Warsaw with the hordes from Mississippi. Those corp engineer areas get hammered.
But I have noticed a steady downhill on the amount of gobblers in the area the last few years. And have been told by a landowner/cattleman that he hasn't been seeing many. His grandsons killed 2 about 6 miles down river.
