Challenge or not to Challenge
« on: April 29, 2021, 08:27:39 AM »
You found a bird, unfortunately he and his 3 girlfriends are field birds.  Nonetheless, he is alone with them.  So the never ending question is, mind you, this is the very early season, do you challenge him with a jake or a strutter with a couple hen decs and hope to challenge him to draw him close, or just go with hens and perhaps the hens come in, but he hangs up at 60 and struts?

I'm not generally a field hunter or decoy user, but the few occasions I have participated in that type of hunting, having a male turkey imitation of some sort seems to me to have been the deciding factor in whether a field gobbler would get himself killed,...or not.   ;D

Not a favorite of field birds either, but when they are far and few between and on properties one can hunt, ya take what you can get and make the best of it.
