Locator options for Colorado Longbeards
« on: April 25, 2021, 01:29:00 PM »
Hey fellas, I may have an opportunity to go after public land Colorado longbeards next year.

I know that normal locators like the barred owl and pileated woodpecker probably should be avoided, as those birds ranges' do not extend out west that far. Has anybody went after Rocky Mountain turkeys in the spring, what does everyone recommend for locator sounds?

Any really loud, abrupt sound will work but a loud crow call usually will suffice.  They are readily available and easy to operate.  More importantly, using your locator call at the right time is the key.  They may work sporadically at any time, but they are most effective at first and last light in pretty specific periods of time.

Crow calls work well, the other one I’ve used out here is a cow elk call
