Thank you Hill Climber, I worked for it. And what I didn't work for I paid into.

WV season has been TOUGH this yr. The birds have been henned up and the majority of the hens don't seem to be nesting yet. I was able to fill my tag this morning finally!! Public land in Marshall County WV

I can't speak for the entire state but where I hunt in southern WV it's been a great year.  I've heard more gobbling this year than I've heard in the past two years combined. Called up single long beards on more than one occasion and have only seen or heard one hen so far. I know things can change fast but I'm happy for now.

as for the coyotes.....I blame the raccoons more than the coyotes for helping lower the turkey population. Nobody coon hunts anymore and the woods are full of them and they are VERY hard on eggs.  jus my 2cents

I agree.  I've heard more gobbling the first week than I have in years.  Didn't see or hear as many yotes though.  Coons?  They need thinned badly.  I used to trap them behind the house till someone bought the hill.

Got it done in the rain this morning. Didn't hear a gobble till 7:30. Called three birds to within 100 yards but they wouldn't close the distance. The birds slowly drifted off. As soon as they got out of sight behind a berm i repositioned made one calling sequence and put the call away. Within 5 minutes all 3 gobblers came silently walking right into gun range.  Took the closest one. Weighed 19.6 lbs 9" beard had 1" spurs but they were curved and sharp.

Thanks. The tail fan didn't turn out great but made a couple of wingbones out of him so I'm grateful. He also tasted great.

Not so good again here on the Blue Ridge Mt. East of Charles Town and a farm I hunt just out of Martinsburg.  In March I saw 22 longbeards in a field on the farm and never heard a gobble there during the season.  I did see a few jakes.  On the Blue Ridge on a 1300 acre place I heard 3 gobblers and a couple were close enough to talk to and they vaporized, I guess.  Still go to the farm in the AM, just hoping one squeals.  Berkeley Springs next week for a couple days.  I can't even guess as to what is amiss.  Still nice to be out.
