I've never had any luck with peacock or woodpecker calls, nor the MAD Dead Silence call. LOL!!
The MAD Dead Silence. Probably one of my worst "gimmick" purchases I've ever made. My buddies and I used to joke that at least it wasn't false advertising. When you used it, all you got was "dead silence". Lol. Drove dogs crazy though!
I hunt near the Ohio River and the property sits atop of a small mountain. Sound really travels there, so I stop and listen at every loud noise I hear waiting for a shock gobble.
The barge boats on the river sounding their fog horns and the train horn across the river in Kentucky drive them crazy.
Also, squealing school bus brakes, motorcycles, and especially semi-truck jake brakes. All of which have led to a Gobbler giving up his position at one time or another. You just have to stop and listen. We've all had that Tom that will shock gobble at everything under the sun but won't answer a single call all day.
Otherwise, I use a Harrison Hootin' Stick to roost birds, but rarely do I use a locator after fly-down.
