We poured concrete on friday so we had to unload the truck when we got in and I also promised a good friend of mine I would set him a blind up on our place so he could hunt there this weekend. When i finally got done with everything it was later than I had hoped so I figured I would rest a little and go roost 1 later but Connor said i would like to go try to find one you can go after since he is tagged out. So I told him ok since you want to we will. I spotted a couple toms that I thought was by there self so we parked and the chase started. I made a big circle and came up to where I had called birds in before and as I was setting up I seen a couple toms cross into the woods. I went to calling and they gobbled. After them just staying in 1 spot strutting and gobbling I decided to drop my vest and make a move. I went to crawling and told Connor to just stay back,as I got closer I noticed the top of his fan and decided to just keep crawling keeping a small bushy maple and a big chestnut oak that was in the fence row between us. When i got up to the trees I could see a couple toms and some hens. I got aggressive and had 1 of the hens coming but she decided to stop and head back. The toms was strutting side by side so I couldn't shoot. I decided to stand up behind the big tree to get a better shot. When i raised up I noticed they was coming back my way so I laid back down but as I was getting my gun back to my shoulder a hen that had came from somewhere spotted me. The toms split apart some and was heading away so it was now or never and he stepped between a fork in a tree allowing me a good shot that I felt comfortable with. When i shot he rolled and I went to go get him. As i was picking him up Connor came running and I think he was more excited than the one he killed. I asked well did you like that and he said this was awesome and you are right, this is alot more fun than just sitting and waiting on them. He weighed 16 pound 7 ounces, had a 9 1/2 in beard and 7/8in spurs. This is the first bird I have killed when connor was with me and the first bird i have killed with my 20ga franchi affinity. unfortantly I hit the wrong button on my cam so I didn't get it on video.
