We normally make the long trip out West from the Florida panhandle each spring but with everything going on we decided to stay closer to home and try Tennessee this year. It took us a little while to piece things together but eventually we found some turkeys and made it happen Thursday morning.

We heard minimal gobbling all week. I'm guessing maybe it was just a lull or the fact we were hunting survivors from being pressured the first few weeks of the season.

Either way, it was cold, foggy, and damp Thursday morning with no gobbles on the roost. Around 7:30 we moved down the forest service road and sat down to call and immediately struck him a little over 200 yards away. He came in running on a string and it was all over less than 5 minutes from the first gobble.

Really nice gobbler and an even better reward after a tough week of hunting. 11 1/2" beard and 1" spurs.

Big thanks to one of the forum members for responding to my PM before the trip and going as far as calling us and checking on how things were going while we were in the area. Helped us out a ton. That's a wrap for our season. Good luck to everyone else still going strong!

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

Congrats on the fine gobbler.  It's great to hear that you were helped by a member of this great site, this is the exact reason I joined after lurking for a few years. We all share the passion.
