I had to make a trip up to the hunt camp in SC. On Easter night a EF3 tornado went through the area causing terrible destruction and killing 5 people. I went up to make sure camp and the hunting property were OK.
Fortunately they are, so I figured while I was here, may as well hunt.
After working all weekend on the property with my hunting partner, this afternoon I went out. Called in a hen, who walked away talking back and forth with me. About 20 minutes later, I was looking ahead in the woods, when I heard what every turkey hunter dreads.
PUTT!!! Putt, putt, putt!!! I looked to my right and behind me, and there's a gobbler standing there looking at me. He came in quiet as a church mouse, and of course on the wrong side and slightly behind me. No shot option.
I've got 2 days left to hunt, and my season will be over.
