Game vest to carry birds?

How many of you use your turkey vest to tote birds for the long hike out?  (From reading other threads it seems like not many)

If I have a short walk, I throw the bird over my shoulder...  If I have a long walk back, I generally put the bird in my turkey vest game bag.

Hunting some steep property, I often have quite the trek back (usually uphill) back.  I have found that carrying the bird over the shoulder is quite uncomfortable, and I have not found a turkey tote I like either.

While the game bag is not ideal, it is still the best method I have found for a long uphill walk out with a bird.  I am open to new (or innovative) ideas.

This is not your typical turkey pack, but I love this one. You'll see it has a mesh bird bag that tucks away and while they don't advertise as such, it WILL hold a large gobbler. If you have a long walk or a climb, like I do hunting in Idaho, than this is the ticket. Holds things snug to your body.

Not cheap, but high quality. If you're a minimalist in the woods, this is a great pack. If you like to haul around a bunch of friction calls and whatnot, probably not for you.

That does look interesting...  Not such a fan of the hydration pack, but would guess it could be removed to store other items?

I do and use Cabelas tactical tat'r. Works great for getting gobblers out.

I mainly hunt in the heat in Dixie, so I rarely use a vest. For short trips out of the woods, I just throw the gobbler over my shoulder. For longer treks back to the truck I use a Hunters Specialties orange game bag. It's just a big orange bag with 2 shoulder straps for wearing like a back pack.

Yes, the water bladder is easily removed if you choose.  I also have the scabbard attachment, which is nice when you really want to be hands-free. But I don't bother with it when turkey hunting.

If it is much more than 200 yards, into the vest he goes. Other wise I just use one of the para-cord turkey slings that are sold in the classifieds here on OG.
