Mossy Oak first pattern was Bottomland. Found on the web their second was called Hill Country. Bottomland prevail they said. I was wondering doesn't any one remember or have any of the Hill Country? Can't find anything to see what the pattern looked like?

It's so similar to Bottomland it's difficult to tell them apart. Hillcountry is pretty rare, I think by the time Mossy Oak was available to the masses they had already decided to go with Bottomland rather than Hillcountry.

Yeah, seems like I remember it being similar to Bottomland.  They mentioned it on their Mossy Oak GO program.

Nice write up above.

When mossy oak started production of their clothing back in the 80s there was very little to be had around my home in pennsylvania.
My first purchase was from a gun shop I drove over 2 hours one way  to get to. Their stock was extremely limited . I ended up with a pair of pants several sizes too big and a jacket that was a bit small on me. They only had the hill country pattern left.
I wore that set for a year or more till I could find some in stock.
I remember the grayish hue to the hill country pattern. It looked darker in the woods than original bottomland. When mossy oak brought out new bottomland pattern I originally thought they had reintroduced hill country. The color is very similar but the bark pattern is tighter than hill country.
The first year I wore hill country no one aroundd here had seen it. My cousin walked up on me sitting against an old pine snag and could not see me. He finally saw the shoe strings and eyelets of my timberland boots. In the right setting it is one of the most effective patterns ever made.

It's very similar to Bottomland just a shade different:

The base color is more grey than tan and the elliptical shapes are more reddish clay than chocolate brown.

Interesting. Never heard of the hill country pattern. Probably seen it but assumed it was the Bottomland very similar
If you make everything easy how do you know when your good at anything?

Id,love to have one of those jackets.
Neat story and history.
I remember army surplus then I thought I struck gold when I got a second hand bottomland sweatshirt from a friend.

That's awesome, never knew about that. Something to keep an eye out for. Cool story

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

Very cool story, I have a handful of older mossy, mostly shadow branch but also fall foliage and shadow leaf.

Pretty sure I killed my first turkey in the fall foliage pants, need to find that old pick!  And fix the ripped out crotch from a barb wire fence.

Wow I would say it is bottomland hahah

I had no clue but that is really cool. Mossy Oak has always been my favorite camo.
