Just came back this morning and had a great trip.  I will say the public was more difficult than I had imagined going in and the few public lands that were open are open 7 days a week.  It was around 1130am on day 6 before I finally heard a gobble actually on public land and not across the fence, but the other guys I was with did better in that area.  Things were getting better for us towards the end of our stay, be that from dialing in where the birds were better or birds splitting off from hens a little more.  I'm ready to go back!  Best of luck to you!

Wow, that's surprising,...but I suspect the increased interest in turkey hunting over there may be starting to have an impact on the numbers of birds on those limited areas open to hunting.  I assume you guys did end up killing some gobblers?...

We did. It was good just had to work for it.  Every one of us in our group killed, so it was most certainly a success.  Getting the editing rolling now hoping to push things out video wise quickly. Should have some good content on this one, although not a friendly filming environment.

You have to check the regs to see which areas are open daily, and which are open only during the weekends. Spring turkey is open in 2 areas only, Area G & Area A, both on Mauna Kea. Spring season is open, daily Mar 1-Apr 15. Fall season, aka game bird season, is open on weekends & holidays.

There's tons of lightly pressured birds on Lanai, but no spring season b/c nobody every asked for one. I'm hoping with local NWTF help, to fix that. The weather and habitat changes has a lot to do with pushing or keeping birds down on the private land (Parker Ranch). Hunting pressure in the public area has goes up & down, but it is generally down over the past 15yrs.

Congratulations on the successful hunt.
