New Primos Box Call

As much as we're all obsessed with custom calls on this board, sometimes we forget about production calls that might be worth having. The talk recently about how many guys go to box is an old primos heartbreaker got me thinking. Primos most recent premium box is called the Tall Timber Gabriel. Purpleheart over sapele wood. It's supposed to be hand made and tuned in their custom shop in Mississippi. I realize that they're still cut by CNC and not truly "custom", but heck so are hallorans boxes and they're great. Has anybody used this box and is it any good? It does look well made and a cut above most production calls.

Haven't used it but I'd bet good money it's a good one. I still swear that if I could find a Box Cutter, it would be the box I carry. That was one of the best box calls ever. Maybe I just liked that it was single sided. Who knows? Doesn't matter. Love my custom boxes but the cutter I had was right on par IMO.

Yeah I agree I have a Primos Box Cutter and it sounds really good. I own several custom boxes but my Box Cutter is always with me. Also I have a primos Ol Glory Frictionite that has always been reliable. These were both my very first turkey call purchases and they still make it on the vest.

I have a couple and they sound great.

I was at there shop just the other day and yes they are all cut on a CNC machine, but each one is put together by hand and each call is sanded and tuned by about 5 guys each with there own little booth. I am somewhat of a collector and like using "custom" calls, but these guys run a top notch shop and employ a lot of local people around here.

Awesome, that's what I needed to hear. I'll probably try one out

Not sure about that particular call, but I am one of those who carries a primos heartbreaker in their vest.

Same here. Great sounding call that I guess I didn't really know just how good of a call I was getting at the time

Here's my verdict. Just got my Gabriel box call in the mail today. In my opinion, the Primos guys knocked it out of the park with this one. It's well made, has a heavy lid very similar to a Halloran box. Really easy to play, can get soft or loud. Nice two note yelp with a good raspy break. You can also get a second hen out of this box by playing further up the rail, gives a nice clean hen sound. The thumb slots make clucks and cutts very easy. Overall it is most certainly worth the 65 dollar price tag, and they could probably sell it for more. It has a better sound and plays better than some custom boxes I've owned that cost much more money. Try one out, I think y'all will like it.
