I bought a refill can and can't get the tips to work right trying to refill my thermacell bottles . What brand works best ? Tips I mean

I think it just needs to have a plastic tip. You will need to take sand paper and sand the tip down to reduce the diameter of the plastic tip. You will then be able to insert it into the brass valve.

Wait?! You can refill the small canisters? Kinda thought they were to be used and disposed of.

Learn something new everyday. Now i regret throwing those things away daily for the last 15 plus years!  Rough guess on what you save refilling them?

I drill the bottom of an empty ThermaCell cylinder out (1/4") then cut the bottom out of a refillable valve on a cheap grill lighter, then grind it down to fit the 1/4" hole & epoxy it in place. The concave cylinder base gives clearance for the new valve to protrude slightly and the cylinder can still stand up.  I can refill the cylinders in no time and haven't needed to buy refills in a while.

Luck counts, good or bad.

Question.

Why install a new valve in the bottom? Is there a benefit?

Here is video on the method I use to refill them. When I refill them, I put a little bit of Superglue gel on the valve before re-inserting it....not sure if it necessary, but I do it. I have also found that they will only fill part way. If you take a pick or something with a fine point and release some of the pressure, you can get more fuel into the canister.

Here the butane I use. It came with 5-6 different tips. I can't remember where I bought it.

^^^ That's the only way to do it IMO. I've done several (no glue or epoxy) and none have leaked. I get the butane (last I ordered was Lucienne 4 cans 300 ml each) from Ebay. As state above, the cans that have the additional nozzles in the cap are a must as finding the right nozzle is key.
