Unique fan coloring

Checking some trail cams today I cam across this picture of 4 Tom's. One seems to have a unique color that somewhat resembles a rio to me. This is in Indiana. Is this a unique color phase? Or is this pretty common? I guess I've never noticed it before and honestly if he was by himself I'm not sure if I would have noticed.

He does look like a Rio!! I've killed some Easterns with a light color around the tips of their feathers, but never down lower on the fan. If I was looking at a picture of just that gobbler, I'd swear he was a Rio.

Looks like a Rio to me too. Great pic thanks for sharing

Definitely unique and somewhat of an abnormal color for an eastern. I have killed easterns with a similar color.

Hey good new is you can open up and outfitting business and sell someone a RIO or Merriam in Indiana.

Yoder409

That's the lightest colored Eastern I've ever seen.

Cool !!!

The good Lord ain't made a gobbler I can't kill.  I just gotta be there at the right time.....  on the day he wants to die.

We get them like that here in WI too, Tail tips not so uncommon to see light tan/buff coloring, but definitely not the typical "Chocolate" color of the lower tail coverts.

Keep an eye out for his progeny in a year or two. He's likely got some mixed parentage. We have Rios where I hunt, but 16-17yrs ago, I busted a 2yo that looks like a textbook
