Could anyone give me any guidance for public land in Southwest Virginia. I went to school in Bluefield for a couple of years and I'm looking at the area between Bluefield and Blacksburg. This will be my first out of state hunt. Not looking for specific spots, just want to know if I'm on the right track or should look elsewhere. I do have public spots in NW NC that have birds if anybody wants to trade information.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to OG.  I grew up in SW Va.  Your best bet is check out George Washington and Thomas Jefferson National Forest land (1.6 million acres).  Smyth, Wythe and Grayson counties hold turkeys.  Contact Virginia Wildlife, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

It's Jefferson in SW Virginia
Yep!  Both National Forest lands were named for founders of our Great Nation, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.  Both were born and raised in Virginia and held the top office of our USofA.

I would take a good look at the Jefferson NF near Blacksburg, VA, if you want a true mountain hunt then check out Grayson Co, Wythe Co. and Smyth Co. like bbcoach mentioned.  Once you get past Montgomery Co. there are no more turkeys in VA  ;)
