ok i have a Yildiz 20ga O/U youth with 24inch barrel
Top i am shooting a sumtoy .562 with apex or nitro TSS #9s
Bottom has a Sumtoy .575  looking for suggestions for a load that will spread decent in first 20 yards.  was looking at federal 3rd degree.  any suggestions?

I would look at the Winchester long beards number 6 shot ....

If you want a more open pattern at 20 yds, a good skeet load using magnum lead shot #7 1/2 will give a forgiving pattern and will have killing energy to 35 plus yds.

also try Fio golden pheasant in #6 or #7.5, 1 1/4oz of nickel plated magnum lead, they give good close barrel patterns and are good to 35 plus yds, depending on your gun/choke.

another reason for you to get into reloading, I reload one oz. of TSS #9's with no buffer for my more open pattern in a 20 gauge SXS, very forgiving 20yd pattern with a Carlson 575 which also gives a 10" that is good past 40yds

some that are shooting o/u or SXS's are reloading heavy 13 #7 shot in a more open choke for their close barrel

T hank you this is what i was looking for.  looking for basketball/beachball size pattern at 15-20 yards.
for shots over 25 yards i will be shooting the TSS

For 15-25yds I would shoot lead #7.5's and try them in imp. cyl. thru modified choke.

another shell that patterned good at that distance is "Estate" they make a 2 3/4" 1 oz. load in #7.5
heavy game load.

My TSS loads are that size at 10-25 yards

can't beat the lead 7.5 for close range shots
it's not the harvest,it's the chase

Straight HW # 7 is what I shoot. Blended loads are inconsistent.

Are you willing to step out of the boat as Peter did?  Think about it, he wouldn't have walked on water without stepping out of the boat!

I use the cheapest shell I can find for close in 25 or less shots ... kent , remington, thugs .... in #6 they all seem to shoot a basketball size pattern  with a modified choke .... over 2/3 of my birds fall to this combination...... why waste a $5 shell on a bird that close?  I shoot mag blends in the upper barrel ... with several shot at 40 plus

longbeardchaser12

that is a gorgeous 20 gauge
I bought one recently as well
I have decided to go with
20 Gauge 3" Hevishot Magnum
Blends....

I switched bottom barrel to a sumtoy 585. Doing Hal handload #9s in top and golden pheasant #6 in bottom. Here's what it looks like dipped and some 20 and 40 yard patterns
