Congrats on your bird.

Couple things:

1) Pic or it didn't happen.  ;D

2) Please do not act surprised when your favorite WIHA is overrun and the birds are no longer in the same county. :dead horse:

Spaight, you called it!!!! Now two years later and the toms don't use this property. The hens will travel through it, but that's it. I hunted it very hard last year not to get a bird off this particular property, and in the last two seasons the amount of hunters I've seen there is more than I've ran into at the much larger local conservation area.

First year I hunted it, I harvested a jake and hunted 25+ days at the property to only ever see one other hunter there during early archery while I was scouting. The second year I harvested two very nice toms, and never saw a soul. The third year I got a tom, an my buddy killed two Jakes as his first bird ever, then first solo bird. Same deal, only ever saw one guy the whole month and a half long season, and I hunted VERY hard. Now last year was a different ball game, almost every day I went (which was a lot) there was someone else there, and on several occasions had birds killed out from under me that I was on or near first. This year has been the same way, and the birds gobble well off property and only keep going farther off the roost. I might circle back to this place the last week of season, if I have a tag left.

Fallhnt, a little off topic but just wondered if you kicked up many quail while you were out there?

Congratulations! I have always wanted to get out there for a few days, to hunt.

I have been covered up in quail this spring. I've heard them whistling at every place I've called for turkeys, often many quail whistling at once. They're all paired up now, and I've been seeing 8-10 pairs on the gravel roads every day on the way to my farm. Last year was really good quail hunting, and I expect this year to be even better.

Wow that's great to hear Kansan, Someone must be doing something right habitat wise in Kansas. Thanks for the report.

I'm not sure what exactly has changed, but the quail have managed to have several consecutive good hatches. There are certainly a lot more quail around than there has been in many decades.

Congratulations. Hoping if my shoulder surgery goes well next month that I can bow hunt them next Spring.

Never.

You almost have to step on quail for them to flush, you'll much more likely hear them than see them. They're around though.
