Fun hunt opening morning. Had a couple birds gobbling at daylight. I had to set my hen and Jake decoys very close to have them visible from the directions I wanted. Gobblers answered my calls a couple times. One gobbler came in quiet. While I was trying to get on him through the palmettos, 2 others gobbled and came on a run to my decoys and strutted around them. I shot one which fell stone dead next to the Jake decoy. This all took about 10 mins past daylight. The second bird jumped on the dead bird then spent more than 1 hour strutting around and pecking the dead bird and the Jake decoy. I just sat and watched enjoying the show. He was never further than 10 yds from me the whole time.
Dead one 10in beard and 1-1/2in spurs. The other was his twin and will be a good one for someone else.
Sunday morning was overcast and no gobbling. My son managed a 2 yr old that came in quiet.
Fun start to the season here in St. Augustine.
