Have a turkey hunting-family vacation trip planned for March 2020. Wife has been there in her life and wanted to go back, and I had no interest in going till I found out they had huntable turkeys. So yes I am going turkey hunting in Hawaii, got a place booked for two weeks on the big island. I know I have 48 hr to register my firearms. But now the wife would like to go and stay at one of the other islands for a week also. And then to another Island, or back to main big island in different area. I have sent and email question to Hawaii asking if I register a firearm on the Big Island if thats good for all Islands. Only in case I may have to registered it just to drag it along with me on the rest of my trip. Don't Know if there is someplace I can lock up and store my shotgun, till I am ready to fly back to the US. So any information on the registration on different islands, and or locking up things in storage. Thanks

Dick there is a gun shop in Hilo (Stuebs Guns).  I'm sure you could take it by there and he would hold it for you if needed. That would probably be easier than dragging it Island to Island as long as your final stop is the big island. You can google it and get his number.

If you are going with an outfitter, why not just use their shotgun.  I would think a good outfitter would have a high quality, dead nuts shotgun on hand for just this situation

Thanks for the information On Stuebs Guns shop, thats the intel was looking for. There might even be the possability of leaving with the landlords at our first place we are staying. Just checking out all possible options before I get there, don't need any unwanted surprises. Thanks

Yes leaving with an outfitter or hunting with an outfitter would be nice. But I will be hunting Public Land no outfitter involved. Someday i may have to use an outfitter or pay a Tresspass fee, but this is not one of them yet.

Thanks for the information, thats why doing my research early and ask for information on here. Just made my reservation for the last house we will be renting. Sounds like we can keep at there place till I fly back to the US. Always interesting when flying or hunting in different states, as to what each place requires, and things can change from year to year. Just got some information back from Hawaii, that they have a new bill introduced. That if passed you wouldn't be able to have a gun in your hotel if passed. Staying in Vrbo's not hotels, so good to go there anyway. But like I said need to check the laws.

Public land hunt on the island?!?!? That sounds awesome! I've always wanted to hunt pigs there, but didn't know turkey was open to hunting. Please share all the info and your experiences. I'll be doing someday!!

  E Komo Mai! (Welcome..1 year early). ! I hunt turkeys in the public land, Kaohe Lease GMA (area G) and Mauna Kea GMA (area A) since '01. Headed over in 30days. PM me for more info.
   FYI....
1. Tags are available over the counter, up to 3 per spring season.
2. The altitude in the public area 6,500-8,000+ft, it's cold before sunrise.
3. Crow calls and Coyote howler locator calls might work once. Too much will confuse the birds here. They don't hear those sounds. They will gobble back to artillery noises coming out the Pohakuloa Army Training Area just a few miles away. it's funny.
4. The Pueo (Hawaiian owl) is a day hunter. Turkeys go quiet when they see them.
