Perfection box calls

Jim Clay's company.  He started it back in the 70's in Stephenson, VA.  Jim is good people.

They have a Facebook page.  But apparently their website is defunct.

Perfection's box calls are just nice, functional production pieces.    Nothing fancy.   But every bit as capable of calling a bird to the gun as any other call.

Mr Jim is just a fine, Christian, southern gentleman.   Yep.

Perfection was an early, early production company.  And pretty successful in its day as I remember.  Boxes, pots, owl hooter, accessories and so on, if I remember right.  For the day, a pretty nice product line.  Not sure about collectability of the calls but I hope so....I got a few signed by Mr. Clay from back when.  But ... they also started production of "The Ultimate Turkey Gun" based on early Mossy 835's back when it may have been the first and only 3.5" magnum.  Mr. Clay told me one time that they planned to make 1000-1200 of them but doubted there were ever close to that number made.  Probably less than a few hundred?  Now THAT would be a nice find!  A sweet little bit of history for sure. I do not know Mr. Clay well, just a few conversations.  But I would agree that he seemed to be fine man and a serious turkaholic.
*I do have a little $10 box call from back then that's probably worth $10 now. lol.  And it will run WITH ANYTHING!

That gun was an 870 and was a limited edition with only a few hundred produced...a rare find indeed.  Perfection was a very innovative turkey call company that introduced many products that were "adopted" by others.  Jim Clay co-founded Perfection along with Tom Duvall in the early 70's  when they both were high school teachers. Jim taught English and Tom taught Woodworking and Industrial arts.  Jim and Tom were the only ones to ever make the mouth calls for Perfection and at one time were also making mouth calls for several other manufacturers...which lead to some very consistent mouth calls. The box calls were produced by either Lynch or Rohm and sold under the Perfection name. Jim is still making mouth calls and has literally stretched several million diaphragms over the course of 45+ years...and is still very much a "turkaholic" but probably more of a "fishaholic"  Tom has retired from the turkey call business and still enjoys woodworking, turning out several fine pieces every year. Perfection had a limited edition pot call and also a limited edition box call, both coming out in the late 90's.

I used Perfection mouth callers with some success in the 70s during my lost in the wilderness days.  Good callers but I missed making contact with Jim's box callers.

They show up on eBay with some regularity if you watch.  Usually can be had for a pretty reasonable price.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Jim in the late 70's - as he was a friend of a friend. All gathered for a picnic (may have been the Apple Blossom parade - those that know, will know what a "thing" that was / is).

Anyway... Mr. Jim got to talking turkey hunting to me & my father at that gathering. Showed us this call he had made (diaphragm). Gave us a quick "how to"', and graciously gave us a couple to try out. I've been addicted ever since! He is a true ambassador of the turkey call industry - and a fine man.

I'm forever grateful for that meeting.

Perfection had a limited edition pot call and also a limited edition box call, both coming out in the late 90's.

I have one of the Limited Edition Pot call sets. It was based on the Screamin Demon laminated pot and was made by and given to me by Mike Dreisbach, as were all the Perfection Pot calls at the time.
