935 or 835

I might jump on the mossberg bandwagon this year just to see what them patterns are all about.. between the  835 and the 935 does either one of these two usually get a better pattern or are the barrels and patterns about the same?

I have never seen a noticeable difference between the two

I've not seen any real differences either. They both pattern very well.

I've owned both and shot both many times. I currently shoot a 935 with 24" barrel and pure gold choke, but hads down the bext patterning gun I owned was a 935 with 26" barrel.

Just go with which one feels the best. I liked the 935 more b/c of the less recoil and it being a semi-auto. My gun before this one was an 835 with 24" barrel, tactical stock, and red dot and I killed a good many birds with it before I swapped back to a semi-auto.

I went with the 835 mainly for it's ability to shoot 2 3/4 shells when pheasant hunting. I would not be unhappy with either one it was just my choice for functionality.

This would be a turkey only gun , I was wondering --has there been many functioning problems with the 935, I don't want a jam o matic

Bought my son a 935 last Sept.  Had problems with it cycling.  Sent it back for a tune up and it functions perfectly.  My son was under the impression it would not handle 2 3/4 in shells.  I used 2 3/4 in. for the first part of the sighting in and they functioned with no problem.

We had the 2 3/4 issue before the site crashed and yes sometimes they will work but if you go to the Mossberg site and down load their specifications for the 935 they say not to or just plain no. I know others do use the shorter shells but the factory does not recommend doing so. That was the main reason I went to the 835. I think Old Raspy had some issues with the short shells? Just what I learned from reading here. Good luck Mike

I really like my 935. I have one that will shoot the 2.75" shells all day without a hiccup. It patterns exceptionally well and does have somewhat less recoil than my 835. I did put a neoprene sleeve over the comb and a SF over the original pad and that's all mine needed to make it a very comfortable shooter.

Mossberg semis come coated in kosmoline from the factory.  The BIG thing with a 935 to get it to shoot the "lighter" or rather mid to heavy 2 3/4" loads is to first clean that sucker VERY WELL then only lightly lubricate it with a light lubricant.  I especially like the spray types with ptfe in them like the PB Blaster dry lube (goes on in a wet mist and dries).  You should also find that the more rounds you put through it, it will break in and cycle a bit smoother.   I used to recommend to my customers that they shoot some heavier 2 3/4" or larger loads through it exclusively after cleaning them before they even tried the lighter stuff.  Never had one customer come back to the store with a problem that didn't follow my instructions.
