Monday morning started out fair. We saw 1 gobbler, but he walked off with his hens. Little later we called 3 gobblers in, but couldn't get a shot across the creek. Later that morning,(12:20) to be exact,my buddy and I pulled off a sneak job on a hung up gobbler. 22lbs 3 beards(11.25,7.25,and 3). Next day, my buddy had gone home leaving just my wife and me to hunt. Three gobblers came in wing to wing in full strut. She was rattled hard,(this is her first year hunting), and she missed the shot. I flattened one of the gobblers after the miss,(24lbs with 10.5in. beard). As we were standing there talking about the events that just transpired another longbeard came into the field. He stayed out of range and went into the timber, where we pursued him. He gobbled and strutted, putting on a good show, but hung up and never came in. The next 2 days were spent at the lake with another buddy catching more crappie than I have ever seen. We tried to get him a turkey, but with fishing so good he just wasn't into it. Today the storms hit good this morning and we slept in. I was pretty run down and needed it. Later this morning we saw 2 gobblers in a cattle pasture and tried to get around on them only to run into 3 more. We called and moved, but the 2 hens that they had with them seemed to be enough to satisfy their needs. Tomorrow will be the first clear sky day this season for us and I have high hopes for the morning. Just maybe we can get my wife her first turkey ever.
