T/C Encore or TK 2000....TSS?

I have both these muzzleloaders and I'm wondering has anyone tried figuring out a load using TSS or is there a reason maybe not to try using it? I have around 10# of Tss and 5# of Htl I'd like to do something with. Thanks

I've wondered the same thing. Don't have a ML shotgun but often thought about getting one. Just don't think I'd use it enough (or ever really) to warrant buying one.

TK2000 - I would really like for someone to post a load that has the umph to drop a turkey at normal ranges and not kick the crap out you like the recommended Knight load does.  That's the 100 gr, 2 1/2 oz load.  I didn't use the TK but once last year since I had recent eye surgery (cataracts) and was honestly afraid of a detached retina.  I just watch some newer U Tube videos using the TK and most everyone commented on the recoil.  Eeek!  Funny how when a turkey shows up it isn't a problem

I am shooting a TK2000 with 85 grains of 777 and 2 oz of copper plated #5's. I use the 3" TPS wads. It still has some kick but not as bad as the heavier loads. I killed one last year with this setup at 25 yds and it really hammered him. I haven't patterned this load at 40 yds so I keep my shots at 30 yds or less, as it has a nice even pattern at 30. I also use a cardboard type overpowder wad, which I have heard helps with the kick but I haven't tried this load without it to see.

FWIW I have an in-line 20 gauge with a Colonial TSTK2 .575 choke. I use 1.5 oz. Federal Heavyweight #7 in a BPI shot cup with a 3/16" 28 gauge styrofoam wad on the shot/in the cup, a 1/4" styrofoam wad over the shot/cup, 75 grains (by weight and I repeat 'by weight') of Blackhorn 209 (that is highly compressed) and a Federal 209A primer to send it on its way. Pellet count was 157 in a 9.75" circle at 30 yards with the cup having 4 slits half-way down. Last year's gobbler was shot at 40 yards with no slits in the cup and was the most instant-dead motionless gobbler I've ever seen. No pellets in breast meat and head was a bloody mess. This year I'm going to use 2 over-column styrofoam wads instead of 1, it's a conscience thing.
Sorry I can't divulge make/model as is a prototype. It's properly stocked and  equipped with fibre-optic sights, it's a dream to carry and sports a precision 2.5 LB factory trigger. The only drawback is that firing is a memorable event. The load used works great in my modern shotgun but not recommended for any other weapon. Last year's load was in the barrel for 9 days prior to firing.

Sounds like an awesome ML ...It would be neat to see a picture of it sometime once it's developed. I bet Tss would really make it shine even more....

With luck I'll try something similar over the next few days.  Target will be at 30 yards.  For some reason most birds I've killed have been in the 27 - 30 yard range.  Going to start at 60 grains and work up from there.  Thanks

I shot the heavy 13 in my Encore with 70grs 777. I used the BP Turkey ranger cup. With the cup full it wasn't as bad as my TK2000. Not even close. I did shoot a bird at exactly 40 yards and dropped it on the spot.

I shoot an old TC Tree Hawk percussion cap 12 gauge muzzle loading shot gun. This gun is screw in choke compatible. I use a Carlson XR Longbeard choke in it. The TC thread are the same as Winchester/Mossberg threads. 

I only pattern to 27 yards. I don't field hunt and must of my shots are within that distance.

My original load was:
90 grains Goex BP
Lubed fiber wad
BPI TPS 12 gauge 2 3/4 shot cup.
110 grains measure volume of copper plated 6 shot.
Topped with another lubed fiber wad.

This load shot very well. The pattern was even and all most all of the shot stayed in a basketball sized circle.

This year I started using #9 TSS. The pattern is dense, but maybe a little bigger than a basketball.

My need step is to try to buffer the TSS. With this slightly wider pattern, I could possible start getting pellets in the breast meat.
