A buddy of mine made the newspaper for his find... :happy0064:

Holy Crap.  Is 30 lbs a typo?  30 lbs is a lot of shrooms.  I weighed 195 at 2.7 lbs the other day.  For two people to find 30 lbs in 90 minutes they would be picking away.

I'd like to get $150-$200 for a lb though.  Around here they go for $30-$50/lb.

That was my first question! Nope...no typo.

Key word is "Estimate". No way that bucket has 30 lbs of mushrooms in it, a 5 gal bucket of water only weighs 40 lbs. A bushel of morels only weighs around 8-10 lbs, so unless he has 3-4 more buckets full his "estimate" is WAY off.
Good haul though!

It is an estimate...but all the shrooms are not shown in the photo.

Wow that is a ton of morels. I do believe the $150-$200 he heard was a little off. Right after that the article said something about that for a dried pound which seems a little more realistic. Up here in west central WI I am lucky to get $15-$20 a pound fresh so I usually just keep them for myself or give them away.

Last fall I harvested about 90# of chicken mushroom of which I sold about half of it for $10 a pound to two different food co-ops. Pretty good haul for just enjoying the fall and hiking with my dog.

Gobble!

great find...i have seen people fill up 100 pound feed scacks with morels before
