Im looking at getting a new sinclair and cant decide between titanium or stainless.  Anyone with both give me an opinion and difference in sound?  Also looking at kingwood or tigerwood for pot....would these be good wood choice to match?

To my ear titanium is a lot raspier than stainless. I like stainless more than titanium but that's just my opinion. I would try to find sound files of both or have John play them over the phone.

Tigerwood is a go to for stainless with a few call makers and kingwood was a top pick for titanium when i spoke to John about getting one. I ended up with Ziricote but kingwood will work just as good.

Titanium. And I'm not a metal guy! Sinclair put it over slate so it killed the metal sound. I use a black and white ebony Striker or even a tulipwood works good on mine. These type of pots sound amazing when you're in the woods and from a little distance hearing them. Kind of like a trumpet most people hear them up close and say that doesn't sound like a turkey until you're in the woods hearing someone else run it :funnyturkey:

I have both in bacote from John they both sound good you just have to try different strikers.I thought I liked stainless better but then I finally found a striker for the titanium and I thought it sounded better and I really don't remember what the titanium liked the stainless was Osage

For me, John's stainless is his best metal. I have / had several titanium pots from him, but I just found the stainless more versatile and easier to run consistently.

Thanks fellars!  In listening to soundfiles I like them both.  Also find myself liking his brass alot too.  Hard choices!

Stainless over slate in kingwood, cocobola or ebony.....it will soon be your favorite.

Very versitle call....tone and rasp drastically change with strikers.

The one thing with stainless, if you condition it with a stone, it really grips and has lots of rasp....incredible high end as well.

Your best best is to get one of each!

You can't go wrong with a brass either. I have a brass in cocobolo that sounds fantastic. Best to get all 3  ;D

noisy box call that seems to sound like a flock of juvenile hens pecking their way through a wheat field

3.25" is what I like for his stainless calls.....actually I like that size for all of the metals.

Brass and copper are just as good in 3"

I feel like the stainless plays with various strikers and a touch easier then my titanium until I tried snakewood...My titanium seems to like the snakewood striker best.. I would say buy both you can't go wrong.. Everything I have ever ordered has been very much pure turkey! :gobble:
