MouthCall Question
May 15, 2018, 10:16:31 PM
I find myself using mouth calls more than any of the rest of my calls each year. I love my pot calls, but more often than not , I use a diaphragm. Anyway, for my questions.
I have and currently do use multiple brands. From the 2.99 Walmart clearances, to the high end (price wise at least) calls. If it sounds good, I'll hang on to it. My question is which ones have you noticed last the longest? By lasting I mean the tape separating. I know they all get worn out eventually, but last week I bought 2 calls and within a couple of days the tape had separated and the glue had started to come out and become stringy. These weren't cheap calls, they were actually a very popular brand that slot of people use. Maybe I do something wrong but this happens a lot. Any thoughts?

I've had some calls that have lasted years. I keep them in the freezer all year, then take the calls I plan to use and keep em in the fridge. I haven't had tape separation issues that I can remember / every day when I get home, they get a rinse, a quick dip into listerine, and refrigerated. Wonder if u got a bad batch of a few?

Another factor here could be how much you leave them in your mouth. Your saliva will wear out the adhesive more quickly than anything, so if you're tucking them back into your cheek when you're not using them, you might wanna just let them hang from your lips or put them back into their case. Hard to say though.

Beware of using them after you have eaten something oily or greasy, that will break them down very quickly. I have some Primos mouth calls I have had in the fridge for years and they still play just fine. Now if only I did.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I believe leaving them in my mouth when I'm not calling may be the answer. Something I'll have to pay attention to from now on.

I would contact the maker. The calls should not separate in 2 days. The maker will / should replace them. Just my 2 cents.

There was some bad tape going around last year and the year before.
Could possibly be some still out there.

I have had very good luck with the Cane Creek calls lasting 2-4 seasons. I rinse fresh water over them after every hunt. End of the season I put plastic fork tip pieces between the reeds and back in the fridge they go. The only tape separations I get are the outside edges on the opposite side of the reeds and frame. The cutting style calls last a bit shorter then the the quiet type calls.

Wow, I never figured any mouth call would last as long as some of you use them. I've always thrown them away every year and bought new ones. Been thinking real hard about getting a jig and making my own, but if I could keep them that long I may try that. So do you guys separate the reeds when you freeze them or just rinse them good and put them in a bag or what?
And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:30-31
