Hey guys, The local NWTF are hosting their banquet tonight and I am considering going but wanted to see what ya'lls were normally like.  I went to a local one here about ten years ago and I was disappointed.  It wasn't what I was expecting.  I'm not trying to stir up any kind of NWTF hate here just curious what ya'lls get togethers were like these days.  The last one I went to, I thought it was going to be a lot of talking about turkey hunting and stuff like that, but instead it was a lot of beer drinking and auctions with the ugh skimpy dressed women.  I just wasn't impressed and it just turned me off from going back.  To be honest I'm kind of thinking about going just for selfish reasons.  I thought I might buy a few raffle tickets and get luck and just see what's it's like now.  Do ya'll know how much the tickets normally cost?  Is the drinking and auctions the typical event atmosphere.  Nothing wrong with that, just thinking about if I want to buy the tickets and go tonight.

I have been to a state event and a local event and I much preferred the state event because the local was just like you described. That said now that I can hunt again I am going to my local chapters in June just because it supports our local efforts. I preferred the state one as well because of all the lectures and vendors that were there and I got to learn a bit and buy a bit.

I'm not sure if they'll have any calls for sale or if it's only auctions and raffles. I wouldn't be opposed to winning a new shotgun hahaha.

Beer and women wearing skimpy clothes sounds like a party to me. My local dinners are dry and actually pretty boring. I haven't been in a while. I used to go to every year but like I said they were boring and most of the stuff up for auction was crap. The guns up for auction went way down hill too. I keep my basic membership but don't have any desire to participate in the dinners anymore.

I think it varies from banquet to banquet. A local banquet here used to have tons of guns for auction and raffle. I remember seeing 20 to 30 guns and lots of paintings Etc . That was about 20 years ago. I don't think the nwtf gets as much support from companies and vendors as they used to. My local banquet was decent last year, I don't recall them selling beer or seeing women in short skirts. It was okay, but not great. They offered all of the items in the typical banquet package.

I enjoy our's and we have a lot's of fun and fellowship, it also give's the local call builder a chance to show off calls and other vendors to show off products... we give away lot's of good guns and sometimes a 4 wheeler ... we have a ribeye steak supper... we have a place setup for the kids with these different blowup dandy jumper etc... it's just lots of fun for the family and we usually have around 300 people or more....

Cool. Thanks for the responses everyone. I think I'll plan to go and check it out. Good luck to everyone this season.

If they were skimpy dressed 10 years ago just think what you might be getting yourself into.  :jackson:

Good point. Heck there may even be dudes in dressed at this point lol. Jk. Well I don't think I'm going to get to find out.  I looked at the tickets online and it's $55 for a single ticket so I'm going to have to pass tonight. I was thinking it was around $20 for some reason. Maybe next time.

If your not a member of the NWTF go and join. Banquets are for raising money. No different than DU PF etc.

We go to one every year.  The cost includes a membership renewal so it isn't too bad.  I long ago stopped spending much more than the entry/dinner fee.  The events have become "high roller" things and unless you are willing to spend big $$$ your chances of winning or buying anything at the auctions are pretty slim.

Beer drinking & skimpy-dressed women sounds pretty good to me! Can someone PM me the next time a banquet like this comes around? :z-guntootsmiley:
