I have been looking at a bunch of chokes for my new gun. There are a lot of people recommending .665 diameter. That being said, what is the difference between different chokes that come in the same diameter? Are they generally interchangeable?

I am having a hard time just picking a choke since there is a wide range in price.

The internal design will be different from each manufacturer. Some will pattern better than others with certain shells even if they are all the same diameter.

What type of gun and shell are you planning to use?

Remington Versa Max 28" barrel, long beard xrs 3 and 3.5 inch 5s or turkey thugs 3 and 3.5 4s and 5s. Whatever works best out of the shells I have.

I would rather have a good hunting pattern for shots between 10 and 40 yards than have a 40 yard plus setup.

Looking at Carlson's long beard, Kicks GT, and choke options from Sumtoy.

Any of the chokes you listed and Long Beard #5s should give you the performance your looking for.

I was hoping you were shooting a gun i'm more familiar with. .665 should be good for what you want. Sumtoy is hard to beat and i have had great results with hevi shot choke with the longbeard #5. This is mostly subjective though as i shoot a mossberg.
