I had been hunting public land along a river and noted that I heard more gobblers in an island across the river than on my side. I did have a chance to shoot one yesterday but a raspy old mama hen stopped pitched out of the roost and stole my gobbler as he was strutting across a field to me.
This morning two of my friends and I took a small boat to the island and quickly scored a double. I'm not much for quick shooting but managed a 45 yd spin-around shot after my friend Mike dropped his bird. The bird scores just over 61 points. The best part is yet to come, the bird is in my smoker with a thick barbecue rub.
