Last weekend I took a ride to the camp to retrieve the 4 wheeler and tie up a few loose ends till next year. Got there around 10:00 in the morning and took a walk to a spot I felt would have a bird. Armed with only a CC Smoker mouth call, I struck a gobble on my first set of yelps. I played with that bird for 45 minutes, over calling, gobbling at him, and doing all kinds of things I wouldn't do if I was trying to kill it. Was able to call him to the edge of the clearcut I was hiding in. Thoroughly enjoyed it. After I left him gobbling, went to another spot and right off the bat struck another bird. He wasn't as vocal, but closed the distance fast and was heading my way. I could hear him in the bottom below me, but backed out before he was sitting in my lap. Hope they make it to March.
