Any body using a Lynch jet slate?

I just picked one up again in the last few weeks and man it's so sweet. I did have one a few years ago but never really ran it much or in the correct way so I sold it. Not sure why but I thought I needed to find another but I wanted the Liberty, Miss call not one of the newer one's. I ran it for a bit and decided I needed to build a striker that would run better for me and maybe change the pitch a bit. After 6 or so tries I came up with a snakewood/walnut peg and Burmese blackwood/ oak that really sound great. There's so many turkey's in this little call that it really blows my mind and I can't wait to give it a go during the coming NY season. There's a reason why this little slate has stood the test of time. Give one a go you'll be glad you did. I'm on the look out for a B'ham slate now if someone has one they want to let go. Send me pics and price.

I used to have one but sold it, sounded really good, but couldnt get any volume what so ever. Always ended up just using my regular slate even for tree talk.  Mike

They do have a unique sound. My dad carried one for years.

I have one that Lonnie Sneed makes that's similar. He told me his wife called it the little bath tub call. Has a great sound.

I too am guilty of leaving it home because of volume.

Those strikers look awesome!!

I never had a jet, but I still have my A.M. "Tiny" Coiner. Called in my first turkey ever with it in the fall of '79. Rides the shelf these days...

I know what you guys are saying but when it comes to volume we are the ones that think we need it not the turkey's. Case in point was two years ago when I called a bird to the gun using one of my scratch boxes. I raked out some real soft yelps as a closer and that bird climbed all over the top of me. To this day I can't believe he heard those yelps. We don't give the birds credit for how well they really hear and feel we need to call loud to get birds to respond. Yes there's times it will work and I still like to cut and run but every now and then it doesn't hurt to tone it down. Besides it's always fun to use different calls from time to time. Just having fun.  Never tried the Coiner call. Take her out a time or two this spring. It may surprise you.

Got one & a Liberty box that my grandpa used, also have a penn's sweet talker that he used, I don't hunt with them tho, have them in a shadow box with the last turkey fan & beard he killed before he passed away.

I called in my first turkey using one my dad had bought many years ago before he passed away. It was one of the old ones made in Birmingham, AL.  I don't use it anymore but I guess I really should.

Sounds awesome though I think I would have to take them out with the hopes of calling a bird with his calls. Nice Birmingham Denny. I'm still looking for one in good shape.

Give Mike Battey a call and get him to play you the recording of Mike Lynch playing that thing. There's more volume than you think. I promise ya, it's not just for soft calling!!
