Another Hooks fan here.  I used to like the XT calls but he quit making them so I switched to hooks two years ago and I am very satisfied.

In no particular order: American Strutter, Hooks, Gooserbat, Headcrusher
People who don't get it, don't get that they don't get it.

He still makes them, even has a stock pile of the old tape if you like the originals.....
Just sent me 4 original styled "Kees" last week.

To me it is a tie between Steve Kinder at XT Calls and Sadler McGraw at Champions Choice.....
Both make extremely good calls, always several in my vest !

Devastator

Mr.Scott Hook for me,he makes the Devastators for me with proph on the bottom and stretched just a bit tighter!!

I love these "best mouth call" threads.

Here's the problem from my personal perspective.  I have bought probably a couple of hundred mouth calls in my life,...and made a few hundred more.  The fact is that you never know how good, or bad, any one mouth call will be until you pop it in your mouth and run it.  Unless someone has recently developed a method of "testing and tuning" mouth calls, the only guy that really knows if one is going to work for them is the guy that buys the call, puts in in his mouth, and finds out for himself.

How many times have those of us that frequent these hunting forums heard the following:  "I bought so and so's call because I heard it was really good and ended up throwing it in the trash because I couldn't run it worth a hoot"?  I'll bet most of us have heard that a lot.

Here's my point:  No one call, or call maker, on the market is going to suit everybody.  There are just too many variables in the call making process,...and in the mechanics of the call user themselves,...for that to happen.  HOWEVER, no matter whose calls you buy, mouth calls can be tuned,...but the guy that ends up using the call is the one that has to do that tuning!

Learn to do that, regardless of whose calls you buy, and you will be far, far ahead in terms of money spent and frustration with running mouth calls.
