Tap size for front bead on 870 express

Front beads on 870 express are press fitted, and I'd like to replace the stock white head with an aftermarket fiber optic.  I've read elsewhere that the existing hole can simply be tapped with a 6-48, can anyone confirm this?

I don't own an 870 but if the tap doesn't fit just drill the hole out with a #31 drill bit.

No problem. That is your best bet, then you know you have the proper size hole for the specific tap. Most hardware stores will have the numbered drill bits.
