I was told old timers did the same by reaming the plastic on a shotshell till it was barely hanging on with a pocket knife right where the wad separates the powder with shot. Theory being that the upper half of the casing would separate with the shot out of the barrel. Sounded pretty risky to me and wouldn't recommend trying it. Bet it would kick like mad!

Well this is open for interpretation but I am going to say my theory was correct concerning that lot of long beards. Without going though a choke to shatter the resin it stays in a clump. Just so happens I have a cylinder bore to shoot them out of. I have a bunch of turkey guns and the guns running the tighter constrictions shot much more even patterns and very few double and triple strikes like those first patterns from my 835 with the .676" choke. I have 9 of those shells left and all are going to run in my 835 with the scope.The long beards after these including the 3" shells threw even patterns without the drama.

My grandfather killed his first several deer by "ringing" .410 shells. Of course they were paper back then. He said you could kill a deer out to 20 yards or so with that old .410 that way.
