Thompson Center Encore Help?
February 18, 2017, 05:09:21 PM
OK guys I have just sold my Benelli sbe2 and sbe 3. I ordered a weatherby sa-459 turkey 12 guage, and a Thompson center encore pro Hunter turkey 20 guage. I wanted an encore so I can later put a 7mm-08 barrel on it for a deer gun as well. Anyways I want to know what kinda of setups y'all are running on these 2 guns: ammo, sights, bases, etc. I think the weatherby comes with a rail already on it that my ff3 will mount directly too, correct me if I am wrong. But what will I need to do to mount one on my TC encore, please share with me all your personal experience!

I took a weaver base cut it down to use only two holes and mounted the picatinny mount. I just received one of Sumtoy's mounts for another build that would work perfect on the encore barrel as well. Sits about 1/4 lower and a lot cleaner looking.

Jhoyle I talked to William today at sumtoy and we were not sure if his mount would work on the new encore pro Hunter turkey 20 guage, he said he would have to see one to see if it would work. So will it work on the 20 guage? Thompson center advertises and has mounts for the 12 guage barrel but their website and all the searching online has yet to reveal to me any sort of base or mounting system for the 20 guage to run a ff3.

Anyone on here have a t/c encore pro Hunter turkey 20 guage? If so what's your setup?

I have one and it shoots TSS real well
from a ic555 or a Sumtoy 562
Maybe a better hunting pattern from the Sumtoy
I have a weaver type rail ( base) and a ff
Red dot on it.

OK I couldn't verify for sure the sumtoy mount would work right on the encore pro Hunter 20 guage so I called eabco today they make a specific rail just for the 20 guage pro Hunter they said the holes are very shallow and take a specific screw..... Maybe that's a sales pitch I just hope it doesn't sit too high. Anyways I also ordered some federal 3" 20 guage heavyweight 7s and hevi-13 3" 7s also would like to try the new longbeard in a 6 if I can get my hands on them. I have ordered a sumtoy choke hope he sends me the 562-5 I hear it's best for the he flight control stuff. I will post some pics when I get it and get it setup if I can figure out how. I am excited about this gun. I want to get into the TsS stuff but right now can't spend the money in the initial setup. Maybe this summer.

OK guys here is my guns just received them, weatherby sa-459 12 guage, and t/c encore pro Hunter 12 guage. Burris ff3 mounted on sa-459 with factory base, claw sling, and sumtoy .650 choke just waiting on time to pattern it.
Ordered a mount and ff3 for t/c encore 20 guage but really liking the factory iron sights.

I used to pack a Rem 11-87 in the turkey woods. Once I got my Encore, the 11-87 seldom left the gun cabinet and soon found a new home with a new turkey hunter. The lighter weight and shorter length appeal to me. My Encore now wears a reflex sight and I have it mounted toward the front of the rail. The original FO sights are very serviceable though.
Looks like you have two nice turkey guns there. Nice to have options. Good luck.

Congrats on 2 really nice looking turkey guns...I'm anxious to hear how they pattern especially the 20g.. Just as Strutr posted my 12g. Encore has put all my other turkey guns into retirement. May even go the 20g. Encore route if you have great patterns like I think you will...

OK guys I absolutely love the encore 20 guage, and kick my self in the rear that I have not had one before. I now want to sale or trade my sa-459 weatherby 12 guage and get another 20 guage gun. I have shot it only with factory choke and to me it patterns beautiful at 25 yards I will try to get some farther distances when I get more time. It was extremely windy Saturday. I am posting pic with eabco 20 guage pro Hunter mount and Burris ff3 it sets at the perfect height for my line of view.
The pattern pic is a 3" magna blend out of the encore pro Hunter 20 guage at 25 yds roughly

Just wait until you pattern with the Sumtoy choke I bet you'll love it even more. I'd try some H13 #7s through it also. Those really shine in my son's 20g.. I was pretty sure it would be your go 2 gun. Set them up right, know your gun and capabilities, and all you need is one shot..

I had an Encore 12 last year and it shot the LBXR in 5's very well with the stock choke. Thing kicked like a borrowed mule, but was completely manageable especially for a turkey gun. Biggest problem I had was the trigger guard if I shot much made me bleed lol! Really enjoyed using and packing that gun otherwise. It was one of the first fun frames so I wonder if they shoot differently in the new ones. Good luck! I'd like to try that Weatherby, seems to get good reviews and the Weatherby guy on Turkey Call seemed like a good guy.
