Shoe Store Thief

A woman in a shoe store pays for a pair of $30 shoes with a $50 bill. 
The clerk doesnt have change, so he goes to the shop next door to break the $50 bill.  He then gives the woman her change.

A while later, the clerk next door comes into the shoe store complaining that the bill she got from the shoe clerk was counterfeit.  The mortified shoe clerk gives the other shopkeeper a $50 bill of his own in apology.

Both the woman with the fake bill and the shoes she took are GONE.  In total, how much did the shoe store clerk lose in dollars?

The shoe clerk took the $50.00 next door to get change and got $50.00 back all even at this time....
The clerk gave the woman the shoes and $20.00 back in change and he got $30.00 to the good in register....
Now he has the give the clerk next door $50.00 back to cover the bad bill.....
This makes the shoe clerk out the $50.00 plus the $20.00 in change but he made $30.00 on the sale
            so he is still $10.00 to the good on the sale.
Now he has a counterfeit $50.00 bill that no good.
In all the shoe clerk is out $90.00.

The customer gave the shoe clerk $50 for her purchases...he didnt have change, so went next door and got a REAL $50.  He then put $30 in his drawer and gave the customer her $20 change.

Later, when the other clerk came by to tell him it was a fake $50, he gave that clerk ANOTHER $50 out of his own pocket.  So then there was a REAL $50 that gets cancelled out by the FAKE $50...and then the final $50 he gave out of his pocket...making it $50 he is OUT!!

Incidently, his register is BALANCED because the REAL money for the shoe transaction is in there!
