Why does it seem most perfer the old style more than the new style? If the old style is out performing the new, what did they change?

I really doubt that there is any difference.  I have both, and I think it really depends on the gun as usual...

I don't have the new style just a couple of the old. I'm just guessing maybe it's because the old ones were so tried and proven over the years.
