Wingbone question
January 26, 2017, 11:01:55 PM
I've been making wingbones for a few years. I have a question if anyone could help. I currently join mine by using epoxy with dye in it. It looks nice but I notice most fellas seem to use thread. Is this done with fishing rod guide thread on a bobbin? Do you seal the thread with the rod epoxy? No need to give away your secrets here. Just wondering if my best guess is good starting point.

I believe that your evaluation is correct. The spindle normally used with rods is probably not being employed, but the bobbin holding tension on the thread would make wrapping and spacing much easier.

I glue mine together with epoxy first, then use an epoxy putty to smooth the joints, then thread wrap. You can use rod wrapping thread but not limited to that. I sometimes use a bobbin, sometimes not.

Thanks gentlemen. I appreciate the help. I'll have to give it a try.
