TruGlo SSX Choke

Looking to buy a new choke for my Mossberg 935.Do any of you recommend the TruGlo SSX ?Thanks

Depends on the choke but it will put out some pretty serious patterns out of the 835. What type of shells do you plan to run thru it?

Yes,I have a 835 and a 935 but I'm gonna use the 935 this year.I shoot the Winchester Long Beard shells,either the #4 shot or #5 shot shells.

The SSX might be a little tight for 4's.

That choke in a.835 is a smoker with lb 5 and 6's

Almost seems like that choke was designed for 835's and Longbeards. I think the grooves and wad catchers help to bust up the shot lok to create an even pattern. No. 5 shot has worked the best for me.

I have always shot #4 shot in my 835 but I think I will buy the SSX choke and try the #5 shot out in my 935!Thanks to you all for the advice you gave

As you may know, I evaluated 32 different chokes through 7 different guns, one being an 835 with the same bore as your 935. In that evaluation, the SSX & the Hevi-13 choke did best and both chokes had very dense and even patterns with no 2" or larger gaps. Those evaluations were with #6 shot.

I have however shot the SSX with #4 and #5 shot in both 3" and 3.5" shells. Pattern density remains good with the #5 shot but there are sizeable gaps with the #4 shot.

Most of my readers and those who have purchased the SSX from me over the years have had similar experiences. My recommendation would be that you use no larger than #5 shot, with #6 shot being an even better choice.

It is after all the total of the terminal energy from all pellets that kills turkeys and that's where pattern density plays such a large part.

Yes they are a great patterning choke in the 835/935s. But there are a ton of other great chokes out there that will pattern great with Longbeards too. Check the mossberg pattern picture page and you'll see a ton of 835/935 patterns with longbeard shells. I've used Indian Creek .675, Kicks .680 and a Stardot .676 in my 935 and killed with them all. I do know in my gun the Kicks .680 patterns the 3.5" Longbeard #5s better(170's), while the Stardot .676 puts up better numbers with Longbeard#4s(140s). I will add that i love the way the Kicks .680 shoots well with just about ANY load ive tried thru it. Not a big #s choke, but nice even hunting pattern , the only patterns i didnt like out of it was with Magblends, but my little brothers first gobbler didnt argue.
