Myarea is going to get 1-3 inches of snow Fri night into Sat. Perfect for me to check one of my secret public land hardwoods areas nearly 2 miles in from where I park. A nice tom and 4-5 jakes were in that area last May - so I hope to see some 3-toed tracks of the 4" plus kind. Hope to flush a ruffed grouse while I am checking those hardwoods. Sunday should be perfect for a 4 mile hunt and scouting session

Hope u have a great time and find a lot of tracks!   I love grouse hunting also and have owned and raise English setters for many years now.  Go every year to Wisconsin which is always a great time...plus it helps hold me over until the spring!!   God bless

Good replys both!   I will be bushwacking off a woodsroad and hunting some really nice hardwoods on Sunday. I never see anyone 2 miles back on public ground. I hope to see 5 sets of gobbler tracks in the snow on Sunday. Those jakes will be fine 2 year olds next May and that longbeard that gave me the slip-- I need to walk where he walked after he left with his hens. Fairly easy and hilly 4 miles plus on a Sunday morning and hopefully a ruffed grouse will explode into the air at some point.
