Since everyone is still slightly in the deer season mood and the thoughts of turkeys are starting to enter our minds I wanted to share a few pics from this past fall.

This first deer I took shortly after the WV archery opener.  Season came in warm and I waited a few days to hunt after a cold front dropped the temps about 12 degrees.  I had been watching this der all summer and was patterning him with my trail cams.  We was very predictable, as most early season whitetails can be.  Killed him on the first hunt within 10 minutes of when I was hoping to.  Grossed right at 129.

I spent most of October just waiting for November, running trail cams, etc.  I have a low gap that really shines in early November as it sits between to great bedding areas.  Deer routinely show up that I've never saw before on camera.  This guy shows up on Saturday November 5th but doesn't give me a shot.  He returns Wednesday November 9th but makes the mistake of turning broadside at 18 yards.  My phone died so I took this pic from my video camera.  Another solid WV archery deer that grossed 122.

Now for one of my all time favorites.  The landowner of the farm I killed deer #1 asked if I would take his nephew during rifle season, the boy had never killed a nice buck and could use a mentor.  Absolutely I reply, I'm not much of a rifle season fan anyways.  This der shows up early November cruising fields and I devise a plan of moving some round bales into a prime location to tuck a blind in.  I watched this der every evening for almost two weeks leading up to opening day of rifle season, I thought Monday was gonna be a slam dunk.  Monday through Thursday evening he never shows, I thought for certain he was shot on a neighboring property.  Friday evening we're in the blind watching a 6 point chase a doe all over the place when the boy says "oh my God, oh my God, look at that one!!".  I knew what deer entered the field before I ever laid eyes on it.  The rest you can say is history.  Very unique rack with a 3rd main beam that measure just a smidge under 18 inches.  Taped out at 135.  The smile on his face says it all.  I'm not sure his feet ever hit the ground walking across the field to this deer.
