Also .....if you contact nitro they will take your shells back and exchange them for a safe load , or at least that's what they were doing with those specific loads I was referring

I got tired of the cost and hassle and decided it wasn't (for me) worth the effort

A few years back, a guy on this forum dissected them, and also sent some for lab testing.  He reported the results and I'm pretty sure it did not go over very well with some folks on here.  I can't 100% remember all the details, and I'd probably get the ban hammer if I repeated what "I think" was said.  You might could search for that thread but I'm guessing it was deleted.
if I'm not mistaken they were "knowingly"using a load that was on recall from nitro due to a powder variance .....but if you didn't carefully read that post you would think all nitro loads were that hot , or at least some people made it out to be , nitro themselves addressed that situation themselves....publicly

Also a certain group of individuals circulating this information are known ....to bash several amminitiom companies except the one for profit venture ...selling tss shot ....that draws no criticism in thier eyes ....just sayin

Individuals making others look bad in a attempt to make themselves look better is a poor  business venture....

I've slept since then... and apparently forgot some of those details you mentioned.  I do remember (in the words of Ron Burgundy) that it "Escalated quickly!"
People who don't get it, don't get that they don't get it.

It is impossible in my experience to load a 3" 2 oz HS shell and stay under SAAMI max pressure with the canister powders available to hand loaders. I have tried it with all the slow burners. Unless Nitro Co. has access to powders not available to handloaders, they can't either. And from the lab results I have seen on some of their shells, they don't worry about SAAMI max. But, compliance is voluntary anyway.
This is exactly why so many barrels blow or shells stick in guns. Way over pressure. Not sure why guys ignore that

The nitro shells are well known for being "hot " loads it's almost universally known , the thread from ywars ago was a "very hot " lot of shells , I have yet to see a nitro blow up a gun , but I suppose you can't be too safe these days

Ive  shot plenty in my day but I like many others, have moved onto other pastures for a combination of my own reasons , mainly cost and consistency

I forgot on my previous post I was referring to the folks from that nitro thread from years ago , my apologies

I have not seen them blow up a gun but have seen barrels blown. . more than once, is that not enough? I sell nothing btw

I was a huge believer in Nitro ammo. I had a 10 ga. Pardner with a Rhino choke that shot about a half ton of shot using Nitro. Patterns were awesome by any measure.
One order, turns out, was particularly hot. Shells would stick in chamber after shot.
Afterwards, one day, I picked the gun up and noticed something was loose. Sent it back to NEF and they found the hinge pin was bent. In a later discussion with Nitro, I mentioned what had happened. He asked me about the hull and when I described it, he said they had a problem with that loading.
I think I recall him offering replacements. Don't recall if I sent them back or they had already been shot.
I put the gun away and ended up buying another firearm. To be honest, I was a little afraid to shoot that ammo out of it again.
They do make a great product, pattern wise. Scared me enough to go to Hevi-13 with my next firearm though...

Never was a fan of their tri-plex loads. However a 2oz load of straight 5s was devastating for many gobblers. Price increases eventually turned me away.
I actually like the Winchester Longbeards better than i ever did the Nitros...

Old Gobbler

I was never a fan of triplex either , I just couldn't understand the concept behind it -

In the 1980's me and my father started shooting the Remington duplex offerings , mind you this was ancient times almost nobody had screw in chokes etc.... But they shot pretty well - to me duplex loads seemed for people who couldn't make up their mind , shortly after Ray was making heavy Turkey loads in his older location in New York before he moved to Missouri - anyways around 1989 or so he was making 2.25 ounce 3 inch loads and heavier 10 gauge and 3.5 loads when they were made available , I would call him up and chat I was boondoggled on how anyone could cram 2.25 ounces in a 3 inch hull , it just seemed impossible ....but he did it -

I've tried countless loads with them over the years , but by far.... The 2.25 ounce 10 gauge load with straight #5 hevi was my favorite , they plain pounded gobblers with authority --  the 3 ounce lead/ hevi offering shot good but the recoil was like being in a car wreck ....

Over the years many companies started offering as good or better turkey loads and for cheaper ...and without the hassle ....I think when environmental made magblends the writing was on the wall , seldom do people make threads like they used to 8 years ago

Somone mentioned about the details of that nitro thread a few years back .....and I can tell you from my point of view it was turned into a public eyesore and blown way out of proportion by a small group with a financial motive at hand , it's hard to determine who's who and what their up to ,, after some years of monitoring these things  , the same names kept on popping up .... Blowing things way out of proportion and dragging companies names through the dirt , several companies -

just the other day I witnessed one of the main individuals ( notice I didn't call them a REAL turkey hunter )  who sells #9 TSS and distributes the formulas ...some where else ......commenting openly on if your taking a 80 yard shot with TSS shot .....to aim......1 and a half feet over the turkeys head to hit that Turkey .....I swear it the truth , I even screen shot it ...... My mind is wiped completly amazed how people are not only do this in their neck of the woods , but even admit to it openly ......80 yards!!!!! With a shotgun !!!!

Nuff said ...I'm laying this to rest

I shot a 10ga for several yrs and to this day the most awful kicking shell I ever shot out of that gun was 3oz #5 from Nitro Ray!!! He sent me 2 to try, I shot one and threw the other in the pond!!!

mspaci

I had good luck w Nitros, but they were such a hassle to get. I went with the Mag blends in my 10 & they have been great. Mike

I shot the 3.5 oz. triplex, lead and hevi combination. Man, when you pulled that trigger, you wondered who got the worst end of that deal! They shot a pattern that was , and I know this word is way overused, unbelievable! There wasn't a space a wasp could get through, let alone a gobbler head!
About the range comment...I was having my SBE II forcing cone lengthened and polished. The guy who did it told me he could make my gun into a 70 yd. gun.
Now I'm all for a 70 yd. gun since a 70 yd. gun should shoot phenomenally well at 40 yds. and better at 30, the range I like to shoot at. He told me he tests his guns on turkeys at those ranges. He also told me he wounds some...
Now, here's a guy who is well respected in the industry telling prospective customers that he can make a 70 yd. gun like it was o.k. to shoot that distance and that he wounded turkeys shooting long to "test" his product. And he was o.k. with that!
Now, MAKE NO MISTAKE, I'm not advocating 70 yd. shots, or 50 yd. shots. I like 30. That's my goal, 30 and closer. My point is there are people in the industry that advocate shots that are hail mary's at best. When someone, or a company starts talking about shots beyond reason, I turn them off and anything they say after, they might as well save it. I'm not interested.
I did go with the 70 yd. guy, against my intuition...My intuition was right!
It dumbfounds me sometimes how little respect some people have for a living being...
