I think I've got the name right. Anyone familiar with him. The fella is from Marlinton, WV and makes some really nice looking boxes. Just wondering if anyone has taken a gamble and won? Seems everyone has to start somewhere. Having said that, maybe he's been selling calls for years. I'm not sure about that soooo...

Anyway, his box calls look nice. Might check it out if you get a chance.

Not familiar with his calls but I just looked and they do look sharp. I'd like to hear one of those boxes.

Me too. That would be the one thing to hold me back. If they sound as good as they look, it'd be killer. Might give one a try in the future. Not right away though. I've got too many calls on the list already.  :icon_thumright:

Speak of the devil,,just got one off eBay last week for a $20 bid and $6 shipping.

Black walnut paddle, bottom, ends
Olive wood sides
Checkered on the side
And a nice deep inlaid turkey feather on top of paddle.

Sound,,,left side is very high pitched a little too high for me,,,,right side has a medium pitched yelp that sounds good.

This is a "pretty call" no it's not a $100 value box but a lot cooler then a bland flat wood finish over the counter box. I think you have a guy here who is trying to expand and right now are a bargain. I've been watching these for a while and he pumps them out. He also makes a long box I lost that bid for I think $36 which is . Pretty cheap for a long.

So long has you guys don't compete with each other on every one because he offers them up every few days in all different varieties of woods and colors I think you can snag one for a $20-25 bid.
Try one and let me know what you think.

I won one yesterday and I'm hoping to close out another in a couple hours. I personally am not interested in them for their sound as much as I'd like a couple for gifts. Want one for my nephew and the guy I hunt with around my new location. He's got a box I gave him but I'd like it back. Lol. This is a cheap replacement that he'll probably like aesthetically.

Just got a message back from the fella. While he's not been doing it for a long time, he's been at it for 10 years. That's 10 years to figure out some of the rookie mistakes. Hope the thing sounds good and I can give them to the respective people without feeling sheepish about it.

:these would make cool affordable door prizes at a NWTF chapter or turkey club banquet.

Got the box today and I can say that it looks nice.

I bought one a while back.      Not sure I remember the combo..........might be purpleheart/sycamore.      Anyways............the paddle was way too thick for my liking and it sounded fair at best.   I can dig it out when I get home and give a better critique if you like.........

I'll second that. It's not an SS, Mabry or other higher end box and I'll be honest, they have spoiled me personally. But then I realized that the price point wasn't the same either. I'll probably end up keeping two of the three I ordered for gifts and either sending the other back or just keep it for my girls to learn on. I've heard much worse in production calls and even had a couple customs grace my hands that sounded worse. I think that for the looks, it's under priced but for the sound, it's about right.

Having said that, the big question is will it kill a bird? The answer to that is yes. Will it do it with the pizazz that some other boxes will, no. But again, apples to oranges.

wvmntnhick

Well, bought three. Keeping the best of the bunch and sending the others back. Maybe I'm just to darned picky at this point. Guess the SS and Mabry boxes have tainted my opinions a bit.
