As of now I still have yet to kill a bird. Today is day four and although I haven't smashed one yet it has been great. My wife went out with me on a whim an has been present every since. I think she has been infected. Now she is hooked, an hasn't even witnessed the grand finale.
There are plenty of turkeys. Neither myself it the turkeys seem to know what stage of the breeding cycle we are in. For example I have zero issue getting birds to gobble but have yet to call one within eyesight, must less shooting range. They also have been flying up to roost abnormally early. Yesterday evening they where in the tree by 7:15. I found that odd.

Well, good luck and keep at it.
As for roosting, our season isn't in yet and were only allowed to hunt until noon anyway. However, I saw the first strutter of the year yesterday and it was on the ground well after what I'd have though was logical. There were no trees near the darned thing and it was still strutting in the field at 7:35-7:45. I figured it would have been headed to roost at that point but he was still doing the dance.

Had someone slip in between be and a bird on the roost early yesterday morning. Shortly after fly down they shot. I don't know if they have killed him or not. I guess that's life on public land.

That sucks but it's not just public land. Had it happen on private ground too. Had guys shot at gobblers from a distance with rifles while we worked them. Had guys knowingly walk in between us and a bird we were working. It's the way of the world I guess. Sucks but such is life.

I just got from the mountains in NC. Between family and a wedding I had a couple chances to hunt. After a slow start I finally caught up with a double bearded two year old. I didn't get him right of the roost but had to hang out with him for several hours until he was ready to come.
We have about 2 more weeks here in TX so we will see how it goes. Late season is usually pretty good so I have high hopes.

Good job, buddy! ...Too bad multi-bearded birds are not counted anymore,...those extra points would have really helped us out! Great bird!
