I have been looking at and thinking about ordering this box from woodhaven for a while after reading lots of good reviews and listening to sound clips. Can any of you tell me what your opinions are of it? also which one sounds better the cherry or the walnut?

I've played several of the cherry and they all sounded excellent. However, for the price they want for them, I'd be looking to someone like SS Calls. Lots of great boxes to be had for a lot less money.

Have to agree. SS, Austin Hornberger, and Steve Kimble. These are all people who have boxes that I can think of in that price range.

noisy box call that seems to sound like a flock of juvenile hens pecking their way through a wheat field

im looking for a box that has some good raspy notes too it not so much the high pitch, kinda going for that old hen sound, any specific models in that regards that yall suggest from the makers yall listed?

Give any of the mentioned callmakers a ring and explain to them what sound you are desiring.  They will be able to tell you what wood combos will create the sound and, most likely, run a call or two over the phone for you to hear.

The good Lord ain't made a gobbler I can't kill.  I just gotta be there at the right time.....  on the day he wants to die.

I have a Real Hen and it's a very good call.
But if you want the most bang for your buck, check one of the fine call makers on here.
For the price of a Real Hen, you would be close to being able to get a good box call and pot call on here.
Still going to keep my Real Hen though. I just can't seem to get rid of a call once I own it.
Must be an addiction.........LOL.

Great advice!

:TrainWreck1:I have had the walnut for several years and love it. It's my go to box call. I also have wood heaven slate ant glass calls that sound amazing.

The Cherry and walnut Real Hens are both great calls and super easy to run.  I'd really like to try the poplar and also the Cabela's exclusive 'heavy heart' box. Having said that, I've got 3 SS boxes that are also great. you'll be fine picking either.

I have a woodhaven heavy heart box that I bought from cabelas recently. Great sounding call. I still use my custom boxes made by Mike lapp. Mike's calls are all turkey.
