Factory full
Without being able to pattern the gun first, I would agree... I have had after-market turkey chokes that shoot a bit high or low... At least I know where my full choke shoots...
Currently, I am shooting a factory full, and my patterns are good out to 40 yards with Hevi-shot #6's.
I was thinking about purchasing a turkey choke this year (as I also lost mine), but I wonder about the actual advantages of such. In good range, there is a benefit to a bit larger pattern with the factory choke, and the factory choke produces satisfactory patterns out to 40 yards... Why handicap myself by shooting an ultra-tight pattern at the ranges I am generally shooting my turkeys at?
This season, I took the top of the head off a bird at 15 yards, and was wondering if I might not have missed that bird if shooting an after-market choke (I purposely held a bit high as I did not want to put any pellets in the body, but apparently I held a bit too high)?
