Deep Cleaning Barrel
March 29, 2016, 08:18:56 PM
I was hearing a lot about deep cleaning a barrel for an increased accuracy and pellet count, Now i was skeptical at first but went by some instructions on
allaboutshooting.com
and i have to say it turned out pretty well it got all the left over following out of the barrel that I've been obsessively scrubbing to death with no prevail but after a slopping mess of Hoppes 9 solvent, scrubbing and 20+ minutes later it looks really good. Anyways how many others have had an increase of pellets in their pattern after deep cleaning the barrel and do you deep clean barrel before the season too or just run a dry brush up the barrel?

Never compared pellet counts, I like it due to the fact it is easier to keep clean after that process. I use a cordless drill to avoid the scrubbing. I use chrome polish on my Benelli barrel once a year, that thing is like a mirror!

I have personally deep cleaned and polished several dozen shotguns of various manufacturers and gauges. I can say that the mass majority showed improvements in pattern density and uniformity. As for getting the gunk out, I've always just used a bore mop soaked with Hoppes and finish up with shotgun patches.

I have deep cleaned my BPS, 870, 11-87 and a 535 and counted holes in paper. A good deep clean job usually helps a great deal. Just be sure and remove all Hoppes #9 residue.
Strangely, my 11-87 prefers (patterns denser at 40 yds) with some loads AFTER one shot has been fired first !
