835 misfires?

Was shooting my new 835 which has probably 25 rounds thru it and when shooting Winchester LBXR 3.5" mags I have had 2 misfires. I eject the round and on the primer it has a light indented mark on it, but not enough to cause the round to go off. When the round is rechambered it it will go off like normal. This has me second guessing the gun for turkey season. Any advise on what my problem could be? I shot a couple different Remington loads that are 3" with no problems.

I'm no Gunsmith, but it sounds like it may be a weak mainspring to me. Could have something to do with the depth of the primers on some of your shells too. Good luck with it.

I have an indented and not fired Winchester 3.5" #6 black supreme shell, that has a primer dent and it didn't go off.  Possible that some Winchester primers are a bit hard?  The shell sits in the man cave now.  But I do have a buddy who had light primer strikes with an old 835 he picked up second hand.   My own 835 has not ever failed to light except for that one shell.

I've owned an 835 for almost 10 years and have never had a problem (knock on wood).  Are you sure you are getting the fore arm all the way forward and bolt locked tight?  If you find the problem, let us all know so we can put it in the memory bank for future reference.

Like others have said, make sure that foregrip is all the way forward and the chamber is locked otherwise this can happen.

Oops, missed the part about it only having been fired a few times. Having reread it, I doubt it would be the spring.

I had this issue with a Charles Daly I used to have, and it was due to a weak hammer spring.

Here is a update on the 835. I took the gun apart and removed the trigger group and the bolt out. I cleaned them up using some CLP on the springs and all moving parts of both pieces. I also took a small dental brush and cleaned out around the firing pin opening on the bolt. There was a little bit of gunk on the bolt, but not enough to cause this problem, I don't think, but I could be wrong. Anyways after a good cleaning and oiling I reassembled the gun and went out with 3/4 box of regular #8 target loads and all of them fired with no problems. I am going to try another whole box of target loads again next week just to be on the safe side.
The only things that I can think of that might have caused this problem are:
1. Like several of you had said the action not fully locked forward, which I didn't pay much attention to. I also thought that the action might not have been all the way forward since the longbeard shells are roll crimped. I have shot almost a whole box of the longbeards in a 3" she'll with no problem. I just wonder if the 3.5" shells are hitting the edge of the chamber and not letting it lock up all the way?
2. The crap I cleaned off the bolt was causing the light strikes.

If y'all have any more ideas or possible reasons for this problem please let me know.

ALWAYS make sure the  barrel nut on the end of the magazine tube, is tight.

I second this. Had the same problem on my 500. I sprayed the pin with remington action cleaner,gave it a light coat of oil and dry fired it a few times to make sure it was free. I have never had a shell not fire in 10 years since doing this.

I have an 835 that I have owned for 15 years that has never failed me until this week. It did exactly what yours did, except the strike was so light that the primer wasn't even dented. I believe that I know exactly what happened.
It happened on my 2nd shot of the day. My guns action is very fluid and slick, very well broken in. When shooting heavy, magnum turkey loads, if you are pulling the gun into your  shoulder with much force from the forearm rearward, when the shot fires you will have the forearm come back, the action opens halfway and partially tries to eject the shell during the recoil process. I believe that I just pulled the forearm on back enough to make the shell kick slightly out. I grabbed the hull and tossed it. I don't think that I fully brought the action to the rear, completing the cocking action/cycle. It caught enough to hold it back, it seemed like the sear disengaged properly on the next shot but there was barely a 'klink' and just a slight mark on the primer, not even a dent. Let me guess, when it happened to you, it was not on the 1st shot...??

Edit: Oh BTW, I did not have any shells in the mag tube. I pulled the 1st hull out and the action was open enough to feed it another shell. I usually just shoot once, then wipe the bore, make any adjustments and then load another shell thru the action port. This gun has never done this during normal shooting scenarios where you cycle the gun and fire the next shell from the mag tube.

When this problem occurs, I've found that if I put a few drops of PrOlix in the firing pin hole, with the gun on its butt end, let it set for a few minutes and then dry fire it several times, the problem goes away.

I am not 100% sure but like BowBendr mentioned it was not on the first shot. The first time it happened it was a second shot while patterning the gun and the second time it happened I had just fired a series of 4 3" shells and I was holding the gun a little tighter to help control the gun with the 3.5" loads. I am going to try shoot it some more this week to make sure.
