I came across a charles daley youth 20 gauge pump with truglo gobble stopper choke. It is wonderfully lightweight and portable, which makes me seriously consider getting it to try as a turkey gun. What do you know about this setup or what advice can you give?

Of course they are not made anymore, but I'm not sure why that would matter.  If it works and you take care of it, it should be fine.  I have seen some throw some great patterns. I have a friend that has one and it patterns better than most guns I've seen.  For the right price, I would not hesitate to grab it.

They may shoot fine but the action on the CD pumps and semis can be  unreliable. Two of my friends have owned them and they both sent them down the road. Just my .02

I have a CD 20ga pump (26"), it has been a great second turkey gun, I have loaned it out to several friends for their children to hunt with.     For 100.00 I would buy it in a heartbeat

Thanks for all the responses. I got the gun and followed Clark Bush's procedure for deep cleaning barrel and choke. Got some Fed HW #7. Hope to shoot it tomorrow.

The CD 20 gauge came with a truglo gobble stopper choke, which might throw a great pattern with the Federal HW #& shot. As I stated earlier, I hope to try the little gun today. However, I bought a SSX choke at Academy Sports for $35 yesterday just in case. Curious what others think/predict about the probable patterns from these two chokes in the CD youth pump with 21" inch barrel. Do you think the .550 constriction in the SSX will be too much constriction with Fed HW #7? If the patterns aren't good, would you suggest next trying a Sumtoy .562 or IC .555, etc.?  Thanks.

I've had a CD youth twenty for several years ..... it's had several hundred rounds shot through it at church camp without any trouble ...... It has a truglo choke and loves   Hevi 7's......  it's like carrying a Daisy ..... especially when fall hunting in Nebraska where you sometimes work with a flock all day

Unfortunately, due to weather, I haven't been able to shoot the little youth CD 20 gauge yet. However, given some of your comments regarding reported issues with the truglo SSX choke swelling in barrels, I'm a bit reticent to try that choke. I have searched all over for the remington SF (rated for hevishot, not the lead only), which many have recommended, but as you know, that is harder to find than the proverbial needle.....Therefore, what choke would you recommend as an alternative? Indian Creek .555, Trulock 7 heavyweight, or Kicks GT? I plan to shoot the Fed HW #7.  Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.

I believe that Charles Daley was bought out by samco global located in Florida.  The guns are back in circulation.  You will find them at Buds gun shop and other companies.  Check the internet for more info

I finally shot the little CD pump yesterday with Primos tightwad choke (bought for $7 at Walmart last spring) and Federal HW #6 & #7. Man, it's so nice to carry and shoot compared to my NEF 10 gauge. Admittedly, conditions weren't optimal. Ambient conditions were 38 degrees and breezy. I shot (2 of each shell) from a seated position with gun propped on knee at a rather small 14"x14" Shoot NC paper target at 40 yards. The #6 gave an even pattern with 67 shot in 10 inch and about 13 shot in the head/neck area of turkey (superimposed turkey target). The #7 gave a more uneven pattern and low (could be me) with some 2-3 inch gaps but 83-97 shot in 10 inch circle and about 20-25 shot in the head/neck area of turkey. Either load would have killed turkey at 40 yds. I plan to shoot in better conditions with a bench rest and bigger paper (30"x30"). Hope to provide photos then. So far, I'm pretty impressed with what I see from this gun. I also have a truglo gobble stopper that I will try. Am interested in the Sumtoy 562-5 too.

I shot the CD pump again today after installing a truglo magnum pro series sights. The weather was nice (70 degrees slight breeze). I compared the following chokes: truglo gobble stopper (I purchased with the gun), primos tightwad .570 (purchased for $7 at walmart postseason last year), carlson's .575 nonported (recently bought at midway for $21) using both federal heavy weight #6 & #7. I ran a dry patch down barrel after every shot.

Results at 40 yds in 10 inch circle :  1) tightwad .570 scored 113 with #6 and 141 with #7
                                                 2) carlson's .575 scored 99 with #6 and 112 with #7
                                                 3) Truglo couldn't compete, didn't count #'s

The tightwad also had a more even spread with #7 putting 30-35-40-36 in the quads. Thanks to surehuntsalot for the tightwad choke recommendation. I will hunt with this choke.
